A Xinjiang commodities promotion got off to a flying start in the city of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Aug 4.
The event, geared towards international businessmen, displayed a variety of famous local commodities including white apricots, wine, Chinese dates, Uygur ethnic group embroidery, tapestries and Osman cosmetics.
The goal of the promotion is to increase business cooperation between Xinjiang and overseas enterprises as well as introduce local products to the international market.
Zhuang Chongwen, deputy director of the State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, said that the meeting led many influential businessmen to invest in Xinjiang.
On the day of the promotion, the China Xinjiang Council for the Promotion of International Trade signed a cooperation contract with the Singapore-China Business Association, which has more than 40 years of history and over 500 member enterprises. The contract will facilitate Xinjiang product trade in Singapore.
In addition, Wu Zhenming, chairman of the Hong Kong Jiangyuan Group, donated 1 million yuan ($161,880) to a Xinjiang livelihood improvement project. The Chinese Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association also donated 1 million yuan to outstanding Xinjiang university students from low-income families.
The overseas entrepreneurs will also visit Aksu and Hotan and other areas in Xinjiang from Aug 5 to 7.
